A luxury rooftop marriage proposal in Rio de Janeiro
Devshanth contacted us to plan a surprise marriage proposal in Rio de Janeiro. He wanted a private rooftop with an ocean view, full privacy, and no chance of Thanujaah seeing the setup before the moment.
We booked a private rooftop terrace in Rio de Janeiro and set up on the morning of the proposal. The sky was overcast, which worked in their favour: soft, even light across the whole terrace and no harsh shadows in the photos.
The rooftop setup: sunflower arch and neon sign
The flower arch ran along the edge of the terrace, built wide and low so the ocean stayed visible behind it. Sunflowers, burgundy dahlias and white daisies, with a neon "will you marry me?" sign set in the middle of the flowers.
We covered the terrace floor in yellow petals and lined the setup with glass lanterns. An acrylic pedestal held a sunflower bouquet, a framed photo of the couple, and a bottle of sparkling wine with two glasses.
A round table for two sat at the centre of the terrace: white linen, dark green chairs, ocean in front.
The proposal
Devshanth brought Thanujaah out to the terrace. She saw the arch and the neon sign, and he proposed on one knee in front of the flowers with the ocean behind him.
She said yes, and he put the ring on her finger.
Engagement photos after the yes
They opened the sparkling wine and toasted. Devshanth gave her the sunflower bouquet, and she held it up and showed the ring to the camera.
We photographed them around the arch, along the terrace and against the ocean, including the ring close-ups and a set in black and white. They finished the session sitting at the table together.

Rio de Janeiro gets overcast and rainy days, and a rooftop proposal still works. This one was photographed under a grey sky. For heavy rain we move the setup or the date, depending on what works for you.
